Clear Lake continues to be a shining example of taxation done right.

City Administrator Scott Flory presented a preliminary Fiscal Year 2020 budget to the City Council Monday night which keeps the city’s tax rate at a modest $9.70 per $1,000 of taxable valuation.  The proposed rate represents the fourth consecutive fiscal year where the city’s share of the tax rate has either declined or remained constant without an increase.

Ocie Grace Hrubetz - Smallfoot, of Mason City and formerly Clear Lake, passed away Feb. 1, 2019 at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave, Mason City, with the Rev.  Matthew Muters officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City..

Renate Maria Hill, 86, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Feb. 4, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. S., Clear Lake, with the Rev. John Gossman officiating.

Burial was at Clear Lake Cemetery, in Clear Lake.

  Family suggests memorial contributions to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Clear Lake,  the Salvation Army, Mason City, and St. Jude’s Hospital.

Melba Arlene Bruns, age 92, formerly of Clear Lake, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 28, 2019, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minn.

Melba was born Dec. 13, 1926, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys (Huntley) Zook, in Clear Lake.

She married George Bruns on Oct. 5, 1947, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Residing in Mason City, they raised two daughters.
