The Clear Lake Police Department is investigating the reported theft of two picture collages and one movie poster belonging to Ritchie Valens’ family.

The family was in town for the Winter Dance Party celebration held at the Surf Ballroom. The items were taken from the Best Western Holiday Lodge in Clear Lake on Saturday, Feb. 2, from a conference room during a family luncheon.  The theft was reported to the CLPD on Sunday, Feb. 3.

(Above) Lots of snow in ‘69 - Harold E. Wolfe, 709 S. Shore Drive, attempted to sweep his walk in 1969 between eight foot snowbanks that stretched from the street to the front door.  Total snowfall for the month of January in 1969 was 16.92”.  Traces of precipitation fell on 19 days in the month.

The 60th anniversary of the Winter Dance Party was celebrated in Clear Lake in the most fitting of ways— with a gathering of all ages of people singing, dancing and reliving great music.
