Area football players land spots on IPSWA All-State team

The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association (IPSWA) announced its inaugural football all-state team on Tuesday, Nov. 20.  The teams are selected by print sports writers in Iowa.

Based on the selections, the future of Clear Lake football looks bright next season.  Three Lion juniors and one senior were honored on the Class 2A All-State teams.  One Garner-Hayfield-Ventura player also garnered honors.

CL girls open season with a convincing 68-18 win

The Clear Lake girls basketball team showed why it is considered to be among the top in Class 3A this season.  The Lions opened the 2018-19 season with a powerful 68-18 victory over Charles City Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Sara Faber led the way for the Lions with 22-points on red hot shooting.  The junior was eight-for 10 from the field.  She drained all three of her three-point attempts and was four-for-four at the free throw line.

Daryl Kothenbeutel

Daryl Kothenbeutel, 75, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th Street, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Chuck Kelsey officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be left to his family in care of Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Daryl Kothenbeutel

Daryl Kothenbeutel, 75, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.

Hazel L. Darg, 92, of Rockwell, passed away Sunday, Nov.  25, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., in Mason City, with the Rev. Art Zewert, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa officiating.  A private family inurnment will be at Elmwood – St. Joseph Cemetery.

Carrie Glanville

Carrie Glanville, 60, of Clear Lake, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2018

Per Carrie’s wishes her body has been cremated, and a private family service is planned.

Carrie was born Nov. 8, 1958, in Des Moines, to Janet Albright and George Clark.  She attended and graduated from Lincoln High School and was married to Ron Glanville 21 years before he passed away two years ago.
