Erica Benson, 41, of Clear Lake, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at her home, in Mason City, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake.  The celebration of her life will continue at the VFW in Clear Lake at 7 p.m.

In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions may be directed to Nathan or Pierce Benson or to the family of Erica Benson at MBT Bank, PO Box 32, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

Blizzard, 1993The snow falling as fast as Michele Bush could sweep it off of her car in 1993.  In all, Clear Lake was left with nearly nine inches of snow.  Cold temperatures kept the snow around.

“Oh Boy!” The Surf Ballroom hosted another fantastic three day Winter Dance Party.

Rock and roll fans from throughout the country and overseas descended on the Surf last week and enjoyed a full slate of local events, as well as music, music and more music.

No injuries after vehicle plunges into Clear Lake

A Cedar Falls man safely escaped his vehicle after it went through the ice on Clear Lake Sunday, Feb. 4.

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a white, four-door truck partially submerged in the lake between the island and shoreline on the south shore of the lake known as Bayside.  The incident occurred just after noon on Sunday.

A fire fighter assisted the driver, identified as John Juhlin, out of the vehicle.  He was uninjured.

Proposed tax rate marks third straight year of decline

For the third straight year, the property tax asking within the City of Clear Lake will drop.

City Administrator Scott Flory delivered the first of three presentations about the proposed 2019 fiscal year city budget during the regular City Council meeting Monday night, Feb. 5.  The proposed tax rate is $9.70 per $1,000 of taxable valuation.
