Lion’s roar with a perfect score

For the first time in recent memory, the Clear Lake boys cross country team finished with a perfect score of 15.

The Lions captured the title at the Belmond Cross Country Invitational held Tuesday, Sept. 5.  West Fork placed second with 75 points and Forest City was third with 81 points.

CL girls drop three matches

The Lions had a rough start to the week, but despite dropping three games to Hampton-Dumont, Coach Richie Ellis says his team rebounded mentally and showed well against Charles City and Mason City in a Thursday triangular.  Losses to the three teams put the Lions’ record at 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the North Central Conference.

GHV girls X-C team making great strides

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls cross country team is making great strides.  They placed third as a team at the Belmond-Klemme meet held on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

“We were very pleased with the results,” said Assistant Coach Emberly Albertson.  “Placing third shows that we are improving all around.  Several girls on our team ran their personal records, which is really all you can ask for as a coach.”

Leading the Lion’s charge was Gretchen Jones, who placed fifth in 20:22.

“Gretchen came into the race in a great state of mind and executed her race strategy perfectly,” said Coach Nick DiMarco.
