Gladys Joan Gisel, 87, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Ventura, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at Encore at Avalon Park Assisted Living in Orlando.

Graveside Inurnment will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Elmwood Cemetery in rural Renwick, Iowa, with Pastor Jesse Burns officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

Lake teen suspected of burglary turns himself in

A Clear Lake man wanted in connection to a home invasion has turned himself in to law enforcement.

Austin Hasfjord, 18, is one of three suspects accused of breaking into a home in the 1000 block of East State Street in Mason City on March 27.  The suspects are accused of holding down the occupant of the home and stealing a safe containing money.

Devon Reckner, 19, of Mason City, was arrested four days after the incident and was charged with first degree burglary and possession of burglar tools.

Clear Lake’s very own MasterChef participant, Cassie Peterson, hopes to make gourmet dining and high-end baked goods accessible and unintimidating at her new Bread and Buttercréme Patisserie-Eatery.

The Clear Lake native will be opening the bakery-restaurant hybrid at 444 North Shore Drive, formerly known as Sips, near the Surf Ballroom.
