Overturned semi trailer kills 50 hogs in Ventura

On June 26 at approximately 9:58 p.m., Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1000 block of 210th street in Ventura for an overturned semi.

Luis Valle, of Ankeny, Iowa was driving the 2017 Volvo tractor truck. The semi’s trailer was fully loaded with approximately 150 hogs.

Traveling south on Apple Avenue in Ventura, Valle turned the vehicle east onto 210th Street. During the turn, the trailer, full of hogs, left the roadway and overturned to its side into the ditch.

The Clear Lake girls came ready to play on Tuesday, June 20, when they hosted Garner-Hayfield-Ventura.  The Cardinals couldn’t match the Lion intensity as they fell, 11-1.

Clear Lake got on the board in the first inning, when Sara Faber smacked a double that drove in Julia Merfeld.

The Clear Lake Lions had some slow starts and exciting comebacks this week. Managing to win three of five games, Coach Peterson hopes to work on stopping the team from giving up “free runs.”

“We came out with some great at bats early to get a lead and then kept putting pressure on their defense throughout the game,” said Coach Seth Thompson.

It was a week of ups and downs for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team, as they dropped a game early in the week to Newman, but rebounded to pick up four wins, before dropping two games at a tournament on Saturday.  The Cardinals moved their record to 14-8.
