Team effort lifts Lions in opening game

The Clear Lake girls basketball team recorded its first-ever win at the State Tournament Monday night. The Lions used an 18-1 third quarter run to race past Davenport Assumption, 60-46.

The Lions (23-2) will meet Sioux City Heelan in the semi-finals Thursday.  That game is scheduled to tip off at 3:15 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena.

With the lead gone and momentum turning, Clear Lake’s Sara Faber did what leaders do.   She put the team on her back and carried it into the semifinals of the Class 3A state tournament.

Feuerbach named new head baseball coach

A.J. Feuerbach has been named as the new head coach for the Clear Lake Lions baseball team.

Feuerbach, who has been with the program for four years, will take the reins from Seth Thompson, who announced he would be stepping down earlier this year.

Prior to coming to Clear Lake 13 years ago, Feuerbach spent eight years as head baseball coach at North Linn.  He also played baseball while attending college at Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids.

The Lion boys roared into the Substate final tonight (7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4) by pummeling Iowa Falls-Alden, 70-39, in a game played Thursday, Feb. 27, in Clear Lake.
