Due to the New Year’s holiday, early deadlines are in effect for the next edition of the Mirror-Reporter.

All news and advertising is due by 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28.  The newspaper office will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Mario Ochoa

Mario Ochoa, 68, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.

Per Mario’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868, 219 Main Ave., Clear Lake.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in chage of arrangements.

The Clear Lake boys basketball team finished the first stretch of its season with a perfect 8-0 record.  The Lions downed Mason City and Algona last week. The Lions are currently ranked fifth in an Associated Press poll in Class 3A.

Clear Lake girls face tough competition

North Iowa is home to some of the top girls basketball teams in the state.  Last week the Clear Lake Lions played back-to-back games against ranked opponents.  The losses dropped the Lions from number two in Class 3A to number four in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association poll.
