(Above) Ready for a dip, 1900 styleThis carefree group at Bayside Park was dressed in the latest 1900 styles for a swim.  Sun burn was not much of an issue, as not much skin was exposed.  Large hats were worn by the girls to ward off freckles, long stockings and bathing shoes were also common among the women.  Men’s wear included short sleeved shirts, some reminiscent of jail attire, and longer shorts that reached to the knee.

Cards move record to 5-5

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball team picked up two wins and one loss in action last week, moving their record to 5-5.

CL girls keep record above .500

The Lions sandwiched wins around a few losses last week, keeping their record above .500 at 9-8 overall.  They are 4-3 in the North Central Conference.

Algona 6, CL 2

The Lions found themselves in a 6-0 hole in the first inning and couldn’t recover in an NCC game with Algona played Monday, June 11.  Late runs closed the gap to a 6-2 final.

Week ends on an upswing for Cardinals

The week ended on an upswing for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura softball team when they picked up two wins against Nashua Plainfield and Lake Mills.  The wins moved the Cardinal’s record to 3-10.
