Marjorie Lee Schmolke, 93, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Good Shepherd Health Center, in Mason City.

A graveside inurnment was held Wednesday, July 18, at Clear Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Judy Veselis officiating.

CL police record second major drug bust in week

Clear Lake police and the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force have teamed up for a second large narcotics arrest within a week.

On Thursday, July 19, Clear Lake police officers arrested Drew Richard Nettifee, 36, from  McKinleyville, Calif., on several drug-related charges.

After 1 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 700 block of North 11th St. on a report of an open door on a house that was thought to be vacant. When officers arrived, they found Nettifee inside. He claimed he had permission to stay at the residence.

LaVonne J. Meints, 85, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, in Clarion.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

LaVonne was born on June 24, 1933, the daughter of Alfred and Pauline (Gruis) Meints, in rural Meservey.  She grew up and attended school in Meservey.

Clear Lake’s Outdoor Classroom has a new feature, thanks to Clear Lake Eagle Scout Jacob Chizek.  Chizek restored and erected a windmill on the southwest side of the two acre outdoor site, located adjacent to Clear Creek Elementary School.

Arts Center capital campaign at 90 percent

Area residents now have an opportunity to help push the Clear Lake Arts Center fundraising campaign over the top.

“We are at approximately 90 percent of the goal,” said Campaign Co-Chair Tom Lovell. “Reaching that goal by the end of summer will help ensure that critical building repairs and enhancements can be completed in a timely manner.”
