Clear Lake police and the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force have teamed up for a second large narcotics arrest within a week.

On Thursday, July 19, Clear Lake police officers arrested Drew Richard Nettifee, 36, from  McKinleyville, Calif., on several drug-related charges.

After 1 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 700 block of North 11th St. on a report of an open door on a house that was thought to be vacant. When officers arrived, they found Nettifee inside. He claimed he had permission to stay at the residence.

LaVonne J. Meints, 85, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, in Clarion.

A graveside inurnment will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018, at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Mason City.

LaVonne was born on June 24, 1933, the daughter of Alfred and Pauline (Gruis) Meints, in rural Meservey.  She grew up and attended school in Meservey.

The first annual Paddlefest was held on Clear Lake Saturday morning.  Organizer Jake Kopriva reported 45 paddlers registered for races in a variety of categories.  Family and friends supported competitors from the shore and water.  “The event exceeded my expectations,” said Kopriva.  “Despite the sub-par weather, everyone was in good spirits.  Everyone seems excited to

Clear Lake’s Outdoor Classroom has a new feature, thanks to Clear Lake Eagle Scout Jacob Chizek.  Chizek restored and erected a windmill on the southwest side of the two acre outdoor site, located adjacent to Clear Creek Elementary School.
