September 1992

The body of Norma Jean Horgen, found floating in Clear Lake more than 26 years ago and the subject of an impending murder trial, has been exhumed from its St. Ansgar grave in an effort to shed more light on the mystery surrounding her death.

(Above) Clear Lake Bakery gets face lift, 1992 - The wave of downtown building improvement projects continued in 1992 when the Clear Lake Bakery removed its former metal awning and replaced it with a fabric bubble awning.  The new awning sported a Butt’r Top logo and the business name.

Dorothy Ione Dietrich, 94, of Clear Lake, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.  Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

Joe Meyer, 33, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was graciously welcomed into Heaven to join his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joe has graciously donated his body to the Des Moines University Body Donor Program to continue his journey of helping others.

Elnora (Elie) Mae Zimmerman Paulson, 87, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anamosa Fire Department or St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Elnora was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Olin, Iowa, the daughter of Mino G. and Sophia Dirks Zimmerman.
