50-years on the clock

After 50-years of running the clock at Clear Lake High School football games, time has run out for Dave Suntken.  The former Clear Lake teacher and coach informed school administrators this is his final year keeping time at Lions Field.  Times have certainly changed in the past 50-years, as Suntken first was on the field operating a stop watch as the official time keeper.  In recent years he runs a sophisticated digital system.

Richard E. Barnett, 65, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Earlham, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.  Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 23 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home, in Earlham.

Bette J. Demro, 91, formerly of Nashua, Iowa, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City, Iowa.

Bette requested no funeral service. A private family burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Nashua.

John N. Hughes, 72, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit – Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  The Rev. Bobby Shomo will be officiating.  Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall and Pastor Art Zewert officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.
