New Iowa leadership makes stop in area

Iowa’s new governor, Kim Reynolds and her appointed Lt. Governor Adam Gregg included a stop at the Mason City Airport on their “Building A Better Iowa” tour Friday, May 26.

Reynolds, who succeeded Gov. Terry Branstad Wednesday after he was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to China, delivered a brief address and then spent time meeting about 75 North Iowans who turned out to congratulate her.

A steady stream of people made their way to Clear Lake V.F.W. Post 4868 Friday and though the weekend to  spend time admiring a “Tribute to Fallen Veterans.”

A steady stream of people made their way to Clear Lake V.F.W. Post 4868 Friday and though the weekend to  spend time admiring a “Tribute to Fallen Veterans.”

Winners all!

It was a very good weekend for Clear Lake High School students!  Saturday, the Clear Lake boys golf team captured the Class 2A State title.  The team celebrated their win with a ride through town on the fire truck.  Clear Lake marching bands were also successful.  (Pictured right) High school Drum Major Grant Dieken and Middle School Drum Major Julia Parcher accepted trophies after being named top bands in thei

Many students and families benefit from free or reduced lunch prices during the school year, but the summer months leave a gap in this program, which Share Life intends to fill with Kids’ Cafe.

Merle C. Larson

Merle Clarence Larson, 91, of Elk Horn, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, May 22, 2017, at the Salem Lutheran Home, in Elk Horn.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating. Burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868.

Family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Judy Johnson.

Bonnie Olinger

Bonnie L. Olinger, 79, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City.

Per her wishes, Bonnie was cremated and a visitation and sharing of memories was held on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

A family inurnment was held on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
