The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team picked up two big wins in action last week.

GHV 4, Webster City 0

The Cardinals shut-out Webster City on Monday, May 15, 4-0.

“The difference in this game was energy,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “We had energy from the start and didn’t let up.  Webster City has improved throughout the year, so I was happy to win.”

Payton Echelberger had two goals for GHV.

Three losses on the road for CL girls soccer team

The Clear Lake girls soccer team will be looking for a fresh start in the post-season next week.  The Lions saw their losing streak extended to five with three losses on the road last week.

A-P 6, CL 1

The Lions came out sluggish at Aplington-Parkersburg and the home team made them pay for it.  Clear Lake trailed 3-0 at the half, but after and hour and one-half rain delay they played a stronger second half, but lost 6-1.

Smith places 2nd in 3200

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team had a competitive weekend at the State Track and Field Meet held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

(Above) Clear Lake’s Zach Lester placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 6’2”.

Zach Lester led the local contingency at the State Track Meet in Des Moines last weekend. The Clear Lake junior came home with a medal.  He placed sixth in the Class 2A high jump, clearing 6’2”.

As a result of having three events to participate in on one day, Lester decided to scratch himself from the 400 hurdles in order to be his best in the Distance Medley relay.

CL boys drop final two regular season soccer games

The Clear Lake boys soccer team dropped their final two games of the regular season, putting their record at 4-14 heading into post-season play.

Mason City 3, CL 0

On Monday, May 15, the Lions were host to Mason City on Senior Night and Parents Night.  The kickoff off came after a two hour delay, thanks to some untimely lightning and rain.

The Lions’ line up for the night featured seven seniors and two foreign exchange students.
