Bonnie Olinger

Bonnie L. Olinger, 79, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Hospice of North Iowa, in Mason City.

Per her wishes, Bonnie was cremated and a visitation and sharing of memories was held on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

A family inurnment was held on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Sherman chosen as parade grand marshal

The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Committee has announced that Betty Sherman has been selected as its Parade Grand Marshal.

For nearly half a century, community members have known Betty as a local businesswoman.  She moved to Clear Lake at the age of one and although she resided in Brookings, S.D. with her husband, Gene, for 17 years, her heart has always belonged to Clear Lake.  The couple returned to Clear Lake and developed the Oak Hills Golf Course.

CLHS awards diplomas to small, but mighty Class of ‘17

The Clear Lake High School Class of 2017 was honored with Pomp and Circumstance Sunday.  Sixty-six members of the class were presented with diplomas.

Student speakers Grant Dieken and Nick Eggers reminded their classmates that they made their way through the school system with a reputation.

Largest street resurfacing project in city history considered

The City of Clear Lake will hold a public hearing June 5 concerning its proposed fiscal year 2018 street resurfacing project— the largest in city history.

Street resurfacing is identified as one of the major capital improvement projects in fiscal year 2018.  It will encompass about 63 city blocks, spanning just over four miles.
