One Frayne on the girls golf team was good, but this year the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls golf team has two.  Junior Bailee Frayne, who led the team last season, claiming TIC medalist honors and placing third at the Class 3A State Golf Meet, is joined this season by her freshman sister, Carlee Frayne.

Long distance runners lead GHV boys track team

The long distance runners paced the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team when they traveled to Eagle Grove to compete in the Umstead Relays on Tuesday, April 4.  The Cardinals finished seventh in the eight-team Class A team standings with 37 points.  Algona won the meet with 129 points, followed by Humboldt with 120 points.

Reese Smith won the 3200 meter race with a time of 10:04.02.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys golf team traveled to the Britt Golf Course on Friday, April 7.  The GHV team carded a 184, 14 strokes behind the meet winner North Union, which shot a 184.  West Hancock was third with 224.

Cardinal girls finish in the middle of the pack at Eagle Grove Meet

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls track team competed in Eagle Grove on Thursday April 6.  The Cardinals finished in the middle of the nine-team meet with 49.4 points.  Algona won the meet with 154.75 points and Bishop Garrigan was second with 81 points.

“It was great to finally have a track meet,” said Coach Dyan Childress.  “The girls have been practicing hard, but with cold weather and a lot of inside practices, it felt good to get outside on the track.”

GHV boys down Denver in soccer action, 3-1

A windy night didn’t slow down the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys soccer team, as they handed Denver a 3-1 loss on Thursday, April 6.

“Besides the wind, it was a great night for soccer.  The sun was shining and the temperature was decent,” said Coach Eric Williams.

The Cardinals scored early to take a 1-0 lead.  Good defense aided GHV, as Denver struggled to find the goal.  According to the coach, the team played very physically and put a lot of pressure on the Denver team.
