Janice K. Bowman

Janice Kay Bowman, 79, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Feb. 28, 2017, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

The body will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held in Clear Lake, on Sunday, April 9, in the Cypress Lounge of the Surf Ballroom, from 1-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc. or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Melinda “Mindy” K. Kavars, 54, of Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, in Mason City.

A Trisagion Service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, in Mason City, with Fr. Joseph Mirowski officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to the Crisis Intervention Center in Mason City.

Margaret “Dutch” Gayle Bieber, 95, of Ventura, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center, in Mason City, Iowa.

Per Dutch’s wishes, her body has been cremated and an inurnment will be in Ventura Cemetery at a later date.

Dutch was born Nov. 18, 1921, the daughter of Lee and Ilo (Davis) Kinsella in Henning, Minn.  She married Phillip Bieber, Jr. on Jan. 1, 1941, in Ventura.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 2003.

Historical Society asks City to purchase house for museum

The Clear Lake Historical Society is asking the City of Clear Lake for financial help to purchase a local property and turn it into a museum.

Work begins on downtown sidewalks

(Above) Work began Monday on the first phase of the Main Avenue Sidewalk Restoration Project.  The south side of the 300 block of Main Avenue is the first of eight segments of the project.  Businesses remain open during the work.  The contract calls for Larson Contracting to complete each segment in 18 working days.-Reporter photo by Chris Barragy.
