Legislative forum draws lots of interest, comments

A much-larger than usual crowd attended Friday’s Legislative Forum, hosted by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

They wanted to talk; and they wanted House Speaker Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) and Senator Amanda Ragan (D-Mason City) to listen.

Listen up! Siren testing begins today in preparation for weather alerts

It is that time of year when the Clear Lake Police Department prepares for seasonal outdoor activities. Part of that preparation is the monthly testing of the Clear Lake and Ventura outdoor warning sirens.

The first test of the sirens will be today, Wednesday, March 29, at 10 a.m.

  Sirens will be tested on the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m., unless the Monday is a holiday. The makeup day for a holiday will be Tuesday.  Additional test dates are: April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7 and Sept. 5 (Tuesday).

Formanek’s love of basketball pays off

Bernie Formanek’s love for basketball paid off in a big way, when the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys basketball team participated in the State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday, March 2.

Just prior to the GHV vs. Carroll Kuemper game, Formanek found out that he would be recognized at halftime of the game as GHV’s “Fan of the Game.”  Formanek was nominated by GHV Athletic Director Matt Graham for his devotion and love for GHV sports.
