Lau and Heitland earn TIC All-Conference recognition

Two girls from the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura basketball team were honored with post-season recognition in the Top of Iowa West Conference for the 2016-17 season.

Senior Hannah Lau, who has a had a remarkable career with the Cardinals, was named Player of the Year by the TIC West coaches. She was also named First Team All-Conference.

Betz named to Class 2A INA All-State Team

James Betz, a 6’7” sophomore at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School, was named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s All-State Boys Basketball Team for Class 2A.  Betz was a named to the Third Team as a front line player.

Ellis named new head volleyball coach at CLHS

Richie Ellis has been named as the new head volleyball coach at Clear Lake High School.

Ellis, who is in his first year at Clear Lake, is currently the fourth grade language arts/writing teacher at Clear Creek Elementary.  Ellis will also serve as the eighth grade girls basketball coach and seventh grade boys track coach.  He was a volunteer coach on the girls varsity basketball team this season.

  Karen Kathleen Winkels, age 68, of Clear Lake, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at the Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

  Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Sacred Heart Oratory, in Meyer, Iowa, with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, in Meyer. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, in Osage, Iowa, with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m.

Debra Sue Dannen, 63, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Mason City and Thornton, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

A memorial service was held on March 11, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating.

Inurnment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.
