In the wake of divided views about the North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation’s work to bring  a large pork processing plant to Mason City, and concern that Clear Lake and Cerro Gordo County leaders were left out of discussion about the prospect, Corridor leadership has announced it will take measures to improve communication.

Clear Lake City Council members heard from a small group which plans to construct an animal sanctuary in Clear Lake.

Judy Siems, founder and executive director of the non-profit Glady Mae Animal Sanctuary in Minnetonka, Minn., said she is pursuing purchase of property in Clear Lake for care, rehabilitation, training and end-of-life care for dogs and cats.

The Council listened to a brief description of the animal sanctuary from Siems, but did not comment on the plan.

The Clear Lake girls finished in eighth place at the North Central Conference Tournament held Thursday, May 5.  Algona ran away with the title, chalking up 165 points.  Humboldt was second with 116, narrowly defeating Webster City, which had 114.  Clear Lake finished with 36 points.

Kathleen J.  King, 72, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, in Clear Lake.  Visitation will be from 5 - 7 pm Friday,  May 13 at the church with a Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 6:30 pm.  Memorials may be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, and the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Rochester, Minn.
