The Clear Lake girls tennis team was dealt a pair of losses in action last week.  The Lions were shut out at Boone, then rallied but fell short at home against St. Edmonds.

CL boys tennis team shuts out Hampton-Dumont

The Clear Lake boys tennis team went 2-1 in dual matches during the week.

On Tuesday, April 19, the Clear Lake Lions tennis team shut out the Hampton-Dumont Bulldogs 9-0 at Hampton.

The team was led by Sam Jones and Jacob Peterson with two 10-0 shutouts.  The Lions didn’t lose a single match in varsity and junior varsity.  Senior Ben Mason had a 10-2 win, while senior Nick Holtz won, 10-3.  Freshman Mac Adams finished with a 10-4 win and sophomore Hunter Gerhardt got a 10-1 win.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team competed in two meets last week.

The GHV boys competed at the Hampton-Dumont Invitational on Monday, April 18.  The Cardinals placed fifth in the nine-team field with 70.50 points.  Denver won the meet with 136 points.

Cardinal girls split two soccer matches

IF-A 4, GHV 2

The Cardinals fought hard, but in the end came up short in a 4-2 loss to Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday, April 18.

“Iowa Falls-Alden is a physical team and that is something we usually struggle with,” said Coach Josh Banse.  “The game was a lot closer than the score shows and they proved they can play with teams like this.”

Payton Bamrick and Hannah Lau scored the two goals for the Cardinals.

Goalie Morgan Westendorf had seven saves.
