Pork processor pledges buffer zone around CL

Local city officials remain quiet on Prestage plan

Officials from the City of Clear Lake remain mum on a proposal by Prestage Foods to build a $240 million pork processing plant in Mason City, however the company announced last week it has agreed to a two and one-half mile buffer zone around the cities of Mason City and Clear Lake, as well as the lake itself in which it will not construct any hog confinements or purchase animals from a facility in that area.

Tuesday, April 19.  The groups met with Grassley to discuss issues such as education and workforce development and community welfare.  The lobbying trip has become an annual event for area leaders.-Submitted photo.

Virgil Anderson, 91, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.  Celebration of Life will be Wed., April 27 at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake; visitation will be before the service from noon - 1 p.m.  Donations may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
