Clear Lake sweeps Webster City

The Clear Lake boys tennis team swept Webster City 9-0 in their opening meet of the year played April 11.  Defending state champion Sam Jones, playing in the number one spot, along with number five and six players Mac Adams and Eric Hahn, all won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Clear Lake girls beat Mason City by a single stroke, 196-197

The Clear Lake girls golf team opened its season Monday, April 11, at the Mason City Country Club against Mason City. Clear Lake won by a single stroke, 196-197.  The Lions’ Emily Snelling was the medalist with a 40.

Other counting scores for Clear Lake included: Ashley DeLong, 45; Jordyn Barragy, 52; and Mattie Krause, 59.

Clear Lake won two of three doubles matches, but fell 6-3 to Osage in girls tennis action Tuesday, April 12.

Clear Lake’s only singles victory was provided by Chloe Mueller, who held on to defeat Hailey Gentz in a close match, 11-9.

Gretchen Jones, who was down 2-7, made adjustments and fought back to 6-7, but eventually gave in to Osage’s Kaire Chisholm at the number one spot.

It was a week of highs and lows for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team, as they finished at the top of the pack in one meet, and at the bottom of another.

A team effort helped the GHV boys to a second place finish at the Lake Mills Bulldog Invitational on Thursday, April 14.  The Cardinals racked up 114 points.  Lake Mills won the seven-team meet with 129 points.
