It was a good start for the season for the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys golf team, as they topped Clarion-Goldfield on a very cool night.  The Cardinals topped the Cowboys by 14 strokes, 173-187, on Monday, April 4.

Clear Lake Activities Director Dale Ludwig has announced that Nashua-Plainfield Head Coach Jill Smith has been hired as the Clear Lake High School volleyball coach, pending school board approval. Smith was the head volleyball coach at N-P for eight years.  She is leaving a program that’s coming off of consecutive 20-win seasons.

Colon denied Olympic dream

Joe Colon, from Clear Lake, fell short of his dream to qualify for the US national team at the US Olympic Wrestling Team Trials in Iowa City on Sunday. Colon opened with a win in the 57 kilogram weight class, beating Obenson Blanc 15-10. He then lost to 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Coleman Scott, who is now the head coach at North Carolina, by a 14-4 technical fall.
