Clear Lake names new head coaches

A fixture within the Clear Lake High School wrestling program has been chosen to replace retiring Head Coach Gary Weber.

Mike Lester, a 1999 state champion for Clear Lake, who eventually returned to his alma mater to teach and coach,  has been named as the new Head Lion, pending School Board approval.

Clear Lake opens season with a 3-1 win over GHV

The Clear Lake girls soccer team provided new head coach Steve Faber with a win in the season opener Thursday, April 7.  The Lions topped Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 3-1.

“For the first game of the season,  I was pleased.  We need to keep working hard and take it one game at a time,” said Faber.

Senior Erin O’Tool had two goals and an assist to lead the team.

The Clear Lake girls tennis team went .500 in the first two matches of the season.  The Lions were defeated, 6-3, by Mason City on April 4, then topped Iowa Falls-Alden by the same score on April 7.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys track team hit the season running, with two meets last week.

Umstead Relays

A short roster for the GHV boys track team led to an eighth place finish in a nine-team field in the Class A Umstead Relays held Tuesday, April 5.  Algona won the meet with 119 points.  The Cardinals ended with 30 points.
