Lions fall to Mohawks, 1-0, in girls soccer showdown

The lions traveled just a few miles Thursday night, April 18, to square off against the Mason City Mohawks.  It was a defensive battle, with the Mohawks controlling most of the game.

The Clear Lake boys tennis team hosted the Decorah Vikings on Tuesday, April 16.  The Lions came out with a hard-fought 6-3 victory.

“This was a good win for us.   Decorah is a good team,” said Coach Dave Peters.  “I felt our doubles teams played well tonight.”

The Clear Lake girls tennis team topped St. Ed’s on the tennis court Monday, April 15.  The Lions were 6-3 winners.

Four victories were earned in singles play, with Maranda Harrison, Jessica Theobald, Stephanie Penning and Kaley Meyer all recording victories.

In doubles, Harrison teamed with Kaylee Nosbisch for an 8-2 win.  Theobald and Penning also made a winning team, 8-1.

Despite some high winds and a lack of practice, the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls posted a decent score at the Lake Mills golf meet on Monday, April 15.  Unfortunately it wasn’t enough, as they finished last in the meet by three strokes to runner-up West Hancock.  Lake Mills shot a 218, while West Hancock shot a 227 and GHV finished with 230.

Johnson, 87, formerly Clear Lake, resident and former owner of Johnson Paint & Gifts, also formerly of Alexander, Rowan, and Goodell,  a long time resident of Meservey and most recently of the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center died Monday, April 15, 2019, at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Manly.
