Clear Lake competes in North Fayette Valley Co-Ed Invitational

Clear Lake boys and girls track teams participated in an unscheduled event Friday in an attempt to get some time on the oval.  Coaches said both teams were grateful for the opportunity to compete in this challenging spring season.

The Lions’ boys team placed sixth in the nine-team field at the North Fayette Valley Invitational with 82-points.   Dunkerton won the team title with 127-points.

CL boys compete against tough teams at Fred Smith Relays

Clear Lake boys tested themselves against some of biggest and best schools in the state by competing at the Fred Smith Relays in Ankeny last week.  Placements were hard to come by against the likes of Waukee, two Ankeny schools, Dowling Catholic, Southeast Polk, Ames and more 4A schools in the 16-team field.

The Lions scored 6.5 points, supplied by Zach Lester’s fifth place finish in the high jump.  He tied for fifth with a leap of 6’0”.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team has been battling the weather all season, but did manage to get a game in between snow storms.  The Cardinals traveled to Iowa Falls on Tuesday, April 17, to face the Cadets.

After a brutal snowy start to the season, Mother Nature finally allowed the Clear Lake  girls soccer team to take the field Monday night, April 23.   The wait was worth it, as the Lions earned a 5-4 victory on the road against Humboldt.

Dorothy Garlock

Dorothy (Phillips) Garlock, 98, a resident of Clear Lake for more than 60 years, the author of sixty-two novels, and one of the greatest grandmothers who ever lived, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

A memorial service will be held at  10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Pastor Ed Bard officiating.  Inurnment will be at Clear Lake Cemetery at a later date.
