Oh, what a night!

Saturday was a great night to be a Clear Lake Lions fan, as the girls basketball team earned a trip to State and Clear Lake senior Ryan Leisure became the schools’ first three-time state champion.  The basketball team will be making its third trip to Des Moines in the last four years and will play Pocahontas Tuesday, Feb.

Temperatures in the 60s throughout the weekend, provided inspiration for most to get out and enjoy what feels like early spring weather.  For at least one brave person that included spending some time on his paddle board in the open water in front of the downtown Sea Wall.  The Color The Wind Kite Festival had originally been scheduled for Feb.

City will hold budget hearing March 6

Tax rate expected to drop

A public hearing will be held Monday, March 6, on the proposed 2018 municipal budget.  Under the plan, local taxpayers will see the city’s portion of their tax bill drop for a second straight year.

The proposed tax rate for the next fiscal year, which begins on July 1 and ends on June 30, 2018, is $9.80 per $1,000 of assessed taxable valuation.

Clear Lake police officer submits resignation

A Clear Lake police officer accused of domestic assault has resigned.

Clear Lake Police Chief Pete Roth confirmed that Ryan Eskildsen, 36, submitted his resignation Friday, Feb. 10.  He had been a member of the department since 2002.

Eskildsen had been placed on administrative leave Dec. 5 after he was charged with domestic assault stemming from a Nov. 29 incident.
