Lions capture two wins

The Lions battled adverse weather conditions and a tough New Hampton team Monday, April 10.  Clear Lake prevailed, 163-167.

“New Hampton is a highly ranked team in Class 2A.  I think they will be a big hurdle in our quest to gain a state berth this spring,” said Clear Lake Coach Eric Perry.  “Both teams struggled today.  When the weather and the ground conditions improve, so will our scores.”

Cardinals win triangular

Garner-Hayfield-Ventura’s Grady Umbarger shot a 41 to lead the Cardinals to a triangular meet victory at Gruis Recreation Center in Buffalo Center on Thursday, April 13.  GHV shot a 172 to win the meet. North Iowa was second with a score of 206 and Eagle Grove shot a 221.

CL girls tennis team scores a pair of wins; move record to 4-1

The Clear Lake girls tennis team picked up a pair of wins last week over Osage and Hampton, improving their record to 4-1.

“We are getting better at making adjustments and fighting for every point,” said Coach Mary Jo Peterson.

The Lions won the first four singles matches and the same players teamed up for wins in doubles, helping the Lions to a 6-3 victory Tuesday, April 11.

CL girls tennis team scores a pair of wins; move record to 4-1

The Clear Lake girls tennis team picked up a pair of wins last week over Osage and Hampton, improving their record to 4-1.

“Though we lost,  I was pleased with our effort,” said Clear Lake Coach Steve Faber.  “Considering most of our kids were up late with Prom over the weekend we couldn’t have asked for much more of them.”

Despite finishing at the bottom of the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows meet held on Tuesday, April 11, the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls had a lot to celebrate.  They recorded many personal best times and finished in the top on some events.  Pocahontas Area won the meet with 365 points, followed by Iowa Falls-Alden with 277 points.  GHV finished with 181 points.
