Color the Wind Kite Fest cancelled

The much anticipated Color the Wind Kite Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18, has been cancelled due to rapidly deteriorating ice conditions at the downtown Sea Wall.

“The safety of the kite flyers and the public is of primary concern,” said organizers  Larry and Kay Day.

EDC partners with Chambers to create ‘vision’ for North Iowa

The North Iowa Corridor Economic Development Corporation (EDC), Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Mason City Chamber of Commerce, and several community partners are collaborating on a “Vision North Iowa” initiative.

“Our goal is to work together toward a strategic vision of our economic future built by engaging stakeholders and the public so we are aligned around a common set of guiding principles, values, and goals,” said Chad Schreck, president and CEO of the North Iowa Corridor EDC.

Frances L. Tibbits

Frances “Fran” Lorraine Tibbits, 94, Clear Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at Fertile Lutheran Church, 602 W. Washington St., Fertile, Iowa, with Pastor Dave Halverson officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.

Frances Lorraine Tibbits

Frances "Fran" Lorraine Tibbits, 94, Clear Lake, died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.  A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 17 at Fertile Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 16 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to Fertile Lutheran Church or Cerro Gordo County 4-H.

Remember When 2-8-2017

(Above) Finishing touches in 1992 - Clear Lake artist Marlan Mastellar put the finishing touches on a pen and ink drawing he titled “Buddy ’57” in 1992.  Mastellar contracted with Maria Elena Holly to produce 1,000 of the lithographs for sale at the Buddy Holly Tribute ’92.  The drawing, which depicts Holly as he looked in 1957, was a limited edition print.

As the song says, Rock ’n Roll is here to stay.
