Clear Lake advances four wrestlers

Clear Lake advanced four wrestlers out of a strong Sectional Tournament Saturday at Algona.  The Lions finished third overall, narrowly missing a chance to advance to State dual competition.  Clarion-Goldfield-Dows ran away with the Sectional title, scoring 242 points.  Algona was second with 187 and Clear Lake was third with 186.  A fall recorded by an Algona wrestler in a wrestle back for second place lifted

“Be True To Your School” night planned

Several Clear Lake High School students are members of the Mason City Hockey Club.  On Saturday, Feb. 11, “Be True To Your School” night will be held to recognize Clear Lake players.  Players will be introduced between the games and will throw-out T-shirts.  The event will take place at the North Iowa Ice Arena.  The JV team will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Case and Shaw advance for GHV Cardinals

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura wrestling team competed in the 2A Sectional wrestling tournament at Algona on Saturday, Feb. 4.  The Cardinals crowned one champion in Conner Shaw at 170 pounds.  Austin Case was runner-up at 113 pounds. They will advance to Districts Saturday at Webster City.

Pauline Hackbarth

Pauline “Polly” Francis Hackbarth, 93, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Oakwood Care Center, in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Douglas Holmes officiating.  Following a luncheon at the Lakeview Community Room, burial will be at Coulter Cemetery, in Coulter, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Pauline Francis Hackbarth

Pauline "Polly" Francis Hackbarth, 93, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Following a luncheon at the Lakeview Community Room, burial will be at Coulter Cemetery in Coulter.  Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, February 8 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.  Family suggests memorial contributions to the Village General Store in Clear Lake or Hospice of North Iowa.

Loren Leroy Baker, 94, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.  Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Family suggests memorial contributions to Clear Lake United Methodist Church or to a charity of their choice.
