CBS Sunday Morning will air segment on Midwest kite festival

Clear Lake’s popular Color The Wind Kite Festival will be the subject of a CBS Sunday Morning segment.

Larry and Kay Day, organizers of the annual event, confirmed Monday that a CBS crew will fly into North Iowa from New York to film the Saturday, Feb. 18, event.

Serious kite fliers from at least eight states will travel to Clear Lake to brighten the skies above the frozen lake with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes.

Grandson proudly follows in footsteps of former CL police officer Jim Hanson

Tyler Christy made a lot of people proud when he was sworn in as a new policeman for the City of Garner recently.  But the one person who would have been the most proud died just nine months short of seeing his grandson take the oath.  Jim Hanson, a former police officer for Clear Lake, died on Feb. 3, 2016.

A look back at February 1992 - Clear Lake businesses joined in the Buddy Holly mania sweeping Clear Lake in 1992.  The Clear Lake Bakery was among those participating in a window decorating contest.  Pictured is Linda Wells (left) and Evi Sell.  They were joined by other bakery employees that brought some of their 50’s treasures to the store to create a 1950s bedroom scene.

Lenita M. Houdek

Lenita M. Berding Houdek, 93 of Clear Lake, died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.  A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 2 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.  Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, and one hour preceding the service at the church.  Memorials may be given to the Human Society of North Iowa.  Condolences may also be sent in their mother's memory, to her daughter, JoAnn Comis, 3200 Oxford Drive, Durham, NC 27707.
