Lenita M. Berding Houdek, 93 of Clear Lake, died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.  A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 2 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.  Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, and one hour preceding the service at the church.  Memorials may be given to the Human Society of North Iowa.  Condolences may also be sent in their mother's memory, to her daughter, JoAnn Comis, 3200 Oxford Drive, Durham, NC 27707.

Roy Alfred Larson, 94 of Marshalltown, formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.  Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 3 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.  Family suggests memorial contributions to the Roy Larson Memorial Fund.

(Above) Dog protestors, 1967 - About 14 young people from Clear Lake protested the dog ordinance by picketing Mayor B.C. Myer’s home in 1967.  He invited the youths to the next City Council meeting and that he would have some suggestions for revising the ordinance which stated that a dog must be leashed when not on the owner’s property.

Clear Lake High School 2016 State Champions have been honored in recent weeks during winter sporting events.

 Top-seeded Clear Lake won its second straight Class 2A baseball title — and its third state championship in the last four years. The Lions outscored their three opponents 28-13 at the 2016 State Baseball Championship.

Sixth rated (3A) Clear Lake added two more victories to its 13-1 record last week.  The Lions defeated Humboldt (9-3, 6-2) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (0-12, 0-7) to remain in the North Central Conference driver’s seat.
