Joyce Elaine Matthies, 84, of Clear Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2017, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 301 S. Main St., Ventura, with Pastor Jesse Burns officiating.  Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Dunnell, Minn.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Roy Alfred Larson, 94 of Marshalltown, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake.  Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Roy Larson Memorial Fund.

What do you do when Mother Nature gives you more than a foot of snow?  (Above) Isabel Johnson-Perez had some fun on the sledding hill at Ventura.  According to Weather Underground, the Clear Lake area received a total of 15-inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 24-25.

Color The Wind story will be shared nationally

CBS Sunday Morning will air segment on Midwest kite festival

Clear Lake’s popular Color The Wind Kite Festival will be the subject of a CBS Sunday Morning segment.

Larry and Kay Day, organizers of the annual event, confirmed Monday that a CBS crew will fly into North Iowa from New York to film the Saturday, Feb. 18, event.

Serious kite fliers from at least eight states will travel to Clear Lake to brighten the skies above the frozen lake with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes.
