Council approves price hike for vacation rental permit fee

Owners of vacation properties in Clear Lake will soon be notified of an increase in permit fees.  The Clear Lake City Council approved raising the yearly fee from $150 to $500 per year at its Monday night, Sept. 21, meeting.

A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at the Ventura Community Center.

In lieu of customary remembrances, a memorial will be established in Larry’s name to an appropriate cause or organization to be determined later.

Scott B. Thomas

Scott Brandon Thomas, 44, of Mason City, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, in Mason City.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no services will be scheduled. Per his family’s wishes, Scott’s body was taken to the Iowa Donor Network prior to being cremated, and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Norman Luvern Suby, 93, of Osage, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, at Faith Lutheran Home, in Osage.

Per Norman’s wishes, his body has been cremated and no services are scheduled at this time. Inurnment will be at Brush Point Cemetery at a later date.

Norman was born Feb. 12, 1927, the son of Elbin and Beulah (Hovland) Suby, in rural Fertile, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Fertile. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served during World War II.

Daniel D. Anderson, Jr., 63, of Swaledale, passed away peacefully on March 10, at Unity Point, in Des Moines, where he lost a courageous battle with his kidneys.

A celebration of life will be held from 12:30-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at the Moose Lodge, in Mason City. The family asks that masks be worn during the celebration of life and practice social distancing.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family and a charity will be established at a later date.

CL volleyball team wins first home game

It was a week of ups and downs for the Clear Lake volleyball team.  The Lions started the week getting swept by Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, but regrouped to sweep Crestwood on Thursday night.  The team struggled at the Forest City Tournament on Saturday, posting a 1-3 record.
