‘Ice-In’ declared

Officials from the Clear Lake Water Treatment Plant officially declared Clear Lake as “iced in” on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Iced in is called when a boat is no longer able to reach any shore of the lake.

Although it seems early, the date is not a record.  The earliest ice in on record occured during the Halloween blizzard of Nov. 4, 1991.

Upmeyer re-elected House Speaker

On Friday, Nov. 9, House Republicans re-elected Rep. Linda Upmeyer (R-Clear Lake) as Speaker of the Iowa House in advance of the 88th General Assembly.

  Upmeyer was first elected Speaker in 2015, and had previously served as the House Majority Leader since 2011.  She is the first woman in Iowa history to hold both positions.  She has been a member of the Iowa House since 2003.
